How House Concerts Work

"Under the Oaks" is a place where listening to music is the primary focus, but we also have to eat. We encourage bringing your favorite dish to share with others. We will provide paper plates and utensils, but all the food comes from you, so bring what you can. The music will be on the outside stage if weather permits, otherwise we will all gather in the barn. Part of our goal is to give everyone an opportunity to create new friends as we share our appreciation of this art . There are so many things in the world that tear us apart; music is something that brings us together.

We are located in Appomattox, Virginia.  Right now concerts are scheduled monthly, on Sunday afternoons. Food starts at 4pm and music at 5 pm until 7 pm or so. The "season" is from May until October. Our hope is that as we grow and create new music friends, the shows will be more frequent. Keep up to date on this website.

We are not a business, but a private house concert venue on a private farm. We are located just outside of Appomattox, Virginia. The stage sits under 200-year-old oak trees and the old farm house and outbuildings were built around 1935. We are a member of Folk Alliance International.

A reserved spot on the guest list is needed for all house concerts attendees. The Folk Alliance guides us in these rules for "House Concerts" and that's where certain terms like "not open to the public", "seat donation", and "no walk-ins" are necessary for us to be compliant.

When you click on the "RESERVE YOUR SEAT" button on the "Upcoming Events" page and prepay OR WHEN YOU CONTACT US VIA EMAIL on the "Contact" page and we respond; Presto Chango! You are no longer just a member of the public, but will be an invited guest and thereafter a friend of "Under The Oaks Music". Occasionally, we can allow an unexpected guest at the entrance as in the case of a visiting friend or relative. Bear with us for these "Rules of Operation" while we figure it out, during this first season on how to grow a community fellowship and support musicians.

Remember, Under the Oaks does not encourage walk-ins, so if you plan on attending a Sunday afternoon concert, you must reserve a spot on the guest list, otherwise you may not be allowed entrance. Our capacity is limited and we want to keep our socials unique and intimate for all who come to share the music and the food.
